Lord Sriman Narayana

The Supreme Personality of Godhead

The Supreme Personality of Godhead

As identified in our Vedic scriptures, Lord Narayana is the Supreme Personality of Godhead and the absolute truth. Narayan, in Sanskrit means the source and goal of all living entities. It is the perfect name of the original Lord relative to all His manifestations and expansions. He is totally independent, and the source of everything. He is the all-in-all, and there is no other entity beyond Him. He knows everything directly and indirectly within His creation, which He maintains and which He subsequently destroys. Lord Narayana resides in every atom of material nature and is the supersoul of every living entity.

Lord Brahma is the first living being in this material universe that was born from Lord Narayana, and whom was transcendentally endowed with all Vedic knowledge. From Lord Brahma He also created an infinite amount of souls having minute independence. A choice existed to both surrender and serve Lord Narayana in the spiritual skies on His Vaikuntha planets, or to dominate and transgress to the material atmosphere. In addition, Lord Narayana created an absolute system of appointing millions of demigods as cosmic administrators to manage the material universe. This absolute system of material creation also included creating the 3 modes of nature (satogun, rajogun and tamogun), the laws of karma, and reincarnation.

Take refuge in the Feet of the Lord

Lord Narayana timeously incarnates in this material universe in many forms to compile all Vedic literature, and also to teach by His own example of how to live within the regulative principles and return back home to Vaikunth. Our authorised literature includes the 4 Vedas, 18 Puranas, 108 Upanishads, Vedanta Sutra, Bhagavad Gita, and the Itihasas of the Ramayan and Mahabharata. For the perfect functioning of the material world, Lord Narayana appointed 12 authorities called the Mahajanas, whom He vested all this Vedic knowledge to. This was the only way through which to understand who the Supreme Personality of Godhead is.

To channel these instructions from the 12 authorities to mankind, Lord Narayana furthermore created the perfect system of the Guru Principle and the Guru Parampara, also known as the Disciplic Succession. It is only through the absolute Guru Paramapara system that this Vedic knowledge was then transcendentally passed on through the disciplic succession from one bona fide representative of Godhead to the next. Bona fide Vaishnava Swamis, Saints, Sages, Acharyas and Gurus would consequently belong to either the Sri Sampradaya (principle Sampradaya), Brahma Sampradaya, Kumara Sampradaya or Rudra Sampradaya.

Creator of the Material Universes

Lord Narayana is absolutely auspicious and is the antithesis of all that is evil. His essential nature consists of Satchitananda; Being (sat), Consciousness (cit) and Bliss (ananda), and these qualities distinguish Him from all other beings. He is veritably a great ocean of infinite auspicious attributes which are intrinsic to His nature and cannot be surpassed. Some of them being, omniscience, omnipotence, sovereignty, energy, creative potency and glory. Narayana has a divine form which is both pleasing and appropriate. His form is inconceivable, indescribable, divine, eternal and immaculate. He is a repository of limitless perfections such as radiance, beauty, fragrance, tenderness, pervading sweetness and youthfulness. The Lord is adorned with suitable divine ornaments which are diverse, infinite, amazing, eternal, flawless, unlimited and holy.

Lord Sriman Narayan is the Supreme Personality of Godhead

Sri Narayana Upanishad, Chapter One:

“Narayana is the Supreme Personality of Godhead.  He desired, ‘I shall create children’.  From Narayana the life breath, mind, all the senses, ether, air, fire, water, and earth, which maintains the universe, were born.  From Narayana Brahma was born.  From Narayana Siva was born.  From Narayana Indra was born.  From Narayana Prajapati was born.  From Narayana the twelve Adityas, the Rudras, the Vasus, and all the Vedic hymns were born.  From Narayana they were manifested.  Into Narayana they again enter.  This is the crown of the Rig Veda.”

Sri Narayana Upanisad, Chapter Two:

“Narayana is eternal.  Narayana is Brahma.  Narayana is the universe.  Narayana is Indra.  Narayana is time.  Narayana is the primary directions.  Narayana is the secondary directions.  Narayana is above.  Narayana is below.  Narayana is within and without.  Narayana is everything, whatever was and whatever will be.  Narayana is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, one without a second, free of all impurity, untouched by matter, liberated, pure, beyond the power of material words to describe.  One who understands Him in this way becomes like Lord Vishnu.  He becomes like Lord Vishnu.  This is the crown of the Yajur Veda.”

Sri Narayana Upanisad, Chapter Three:

“First one pronounces the letter ‘Om’.  Then one pronounces the word ‘namah’, then one pronounces the word ‘Narayanaya’.  ‘Om’ has one syllable.  ‘Namah’ has two syllables.  ‘Narayanaya’ has five syllables.  This is the eight syllable mantra of Lord Narayana.  One who respectfully recites this eight syllable mantra of Lord Narayana attains long life.  He has good children, royal opulence, and wealth of many cows, he becomes immortal.  This is the crown of the Sama Veda. Note: The mantra here is “Om Namo Narayanaya”.”
